German defensive end Bjoern Werner keeps Team USA at bay.
German defensive end Bjoern Werner has committed his college football future in the United States to Florida State.
Werner, who first played for the Berlin Adler youth team in his home city, starred for the Salisbury School in Connecticut in his sophomore and senior years of 2007 and 2009, playing back in Germany in between.
Last weekend Werner blocked a punt and recorded a tackle as a member of the World team that faced Team USA in USA Football's USA vs. The World game Presented by Riddell.
During the week of training for the game in Fort Lauderdale, Werner remained tight-lipped over his likely choice of school, having visited Cal, Oregon and Florida in addition to his eventual choice of Florida State.
Werner came to the Salisbury School as a member of the US Football International Student Program (ISP) and last season recorded 57 tackles, three sacks and four forced fumbles. He also blocked two field goals.
The 6-4, 264-pound defensive end joins fellow Germans Kasim Edebali (Boston College) and Curtis Feight at college football's highest level after the pair graduated from the ISP in 2008.
Werner also represented the German junior national team at the 2009 IFAF junior World Championship, helping his country to a fifth place finish in Canton, Ohio.
