WESTERN ONTARIO CLAIM TOP SPOT IN CIS WITH HELP OF FORMER IFAF WORLD PLAYERS

University of Western Ontario, led by IFAF World Team Head Coach GREG MARSHALL, claimed the top stop in the CIS standings with a 33-29 victory against Guelph.  

The International Federation of American Football selects the top Under-19 players from around the world to represent the IFAF World Team at the USA Football International Bowl, played annually since 2010. Each week, IFAF will highlight the best performances of former World players who are currently playing football in the United States, Canada and international competitions on www.IFAF.org and www.Facebook.com/IFAF.org.  

2011 IFAF World Team quarterback BEN ROSSONG led the Mustangs to a 33-29 victory against Guelph throwing for 258 yards and two touchdowns including a 73-yard touchdown pass. He also rushed for 54 yards. The last time Western was ranked No.1 was in 1999 and it also marks the first time since 2001 that an OUA team finds itself atop the CIS football.  

Western also received assistance from IFAF World Team alumni defensively as DAVID LEE recorded 4.5 tackles including a sack for a loss of 13 yards. JEROD MCCRORY, MARCUS BABIC and SCOTT JANZ all had one tackle for the Mustangs.  

Another former IFAF World Team quarterback led his team to victory as JEREMI DOYON-ROCH threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns as Sherbrooke defeated Bishop 38-11 for their fifth win of the season. Doyon-Roch was the starting quarterback for the first-ever IFAF World team and also helped Canada claim the silver medal at the 2009 IFAF Junior World Championship in Canton, Ohio.  

The previously top ranked and defending champions Laval Rouge et Or dropped their first loss of the season falling 17-12 to Montreal. In the loss, former IFAF World member ADAM THIBAULT had one tackle and caught two passes for 32 yards.  

In a thrilling triple overtime game, Simon Fraser University recorded their first victory ever in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play defeating Dixie State College 62-56. The win will go down in the record books, not only as SFU's first conference victory, but also as the highest scoring game in GNAC history, as the two teams combined for 118 points. 2011 IFAF World Team member MATTIAS GOOSEN started at right tackle for SFU.  

No. 2 Alabama defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores 34-0 as the Crimson Tide improves to 6-0 overall. The Crimson Tide defense held Vanderbilt to 190 total yards, including just 48 in the second half. Australian native and 2010 IFAF World team member JESSE WILLIAMS had a tackle for a loss of a yard.  

Florida State fell 35-30 to Wake Forest, but former German Junior National Team member and IFAF World Team star BJOERN WERNER continues to have a spectacular season adding four tackles and two sacks for a loss of 15 yards. Werner has started each game this season and has a total of 16 tackles.

Despite the rainy conditions, Sacramento State defeated Northern Colorado 14-0 without attempting one pass instead rushing for 177 yards en route to victory. Austrian native and former IFAF World Team member ALEKSANDAR MILANOVICH played offensive line for the Hornets.

In a game that saw four lead chances, the Buffalo Bulls found a way to come back and hold on defeating Ohio 38-37 in a crucial Mid-American Conference win. Canadian native DILLON GUY started at left guard for the Bulls. Fellow Canadian and IFAF World Team alum JACOB RUBY started at right guard during Richmond Spiders 31-28 loss to Towson.

TEVAUN SMITH helped Kent School (Connecticut) to a 3-0 start with a 53-12 victory against Brunswick School. Kent competes in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference. Smith scored the first-ever touchdown against a USA National team during the 2011 USA Football International Bowl which USA won 21-14.

Sweden native ELIAS GROON helped City College of San Francisco to a 16-14 victory against San Joaquin Delta College to remain undefeated 5-0. Along with being an IFAF World Team player, Groon was a member of the Swedish national team that played in the 2009 IFAF Junior World Championship.

Former Canadian Junior national team and IFAF World Team kicker TYLER CRAPIGNA showcased both his accuracy and distance during his McMaster's 50-14 win against Toronto going a perfect 2-2 on field goals and 5-5 on extra points. Crapigna connected on a 17-yard and 38-yard field goal. He also had 101 yards on three punts and 334 yards on seven kickoffs.

CHRISTIAN WALCOTT had four tackles during the Concordia Stingers' 39-16 victory over McGill in the 25th annual Shrine Bowl game. SHAQUILLE ARMSTRONG also played for the Stingers.

The Ottawa Gee-Gees knocked off the York Lions 65-12. SOOMBUM CHA did a little bit of everything for Ottawaplaying both ways and special teams finishing the game with one catch for 20 yards, returned two kickoffs for 39 yards, a 5-yard punt return and registered three tackles.

Acadia improved to 4-1 with a 29-14 victory against Mount Allison that gives the Axemen a guaranteed playoff berth. CAMERON WADE recorded three tackles including two for loss of 9 yards. He also had an interception, returning the ball 49 yards. JAKE THOMAS contributed with four tackles and two sacks for a loss of eight yards. DREW MORRIS and ANDREW ROWE bothregistered two tackles.

Other former Canadian IFAF World Team members competing in the CIS had a bye week for their annual Canadian Thanksgiving Holiday break.
