FORMER IFAF WORLD PLAYERS REACH CIS SEMI-FINALS IN CANADA

The stage is set for the CIS national semifinals and former IFAF World Team players are on rosters of each of the four remaining teams. The semifinal games will be held on Friday, November 18 in Canada.  

All fourconference champions triumphed against the only team to beat them in the regular season. The winners advance to the 47th Vanier Cup championship on Friday, November 25 at B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver, live on TSN and RDS (6pm Pacific).

The International Federation of American Football selects the top Under-19 players from around the world to represent the Team World at the annual USA Football International Bowl, played since 2010. Each week, IFAF will highlight the best performances of former World players who are currently playing football in the United States, Canada and international competitions on www.IFAF.org and www.Facebook.com/IFAF.org.  

Former IFAF World Team alum STEVEN LUMBALA led Calgary to victory with 194 rushing yards as the second-ranked Dinos scored 49 unanswered points to win their fourth straight Canada West football championship by defeating No. 6 UBC Thunderbirds 62-13. JAKE HARTY rushed for nine yards, made three catches for 37 yards and returned five punts for 74 yards. Defensively, fellow IFAF World Team star LINDON GAYDOSH recorded four tackles in the win.  

Calgary will now host the Quebec champions Laval, in the CIS semi-final Mitchell Bowl next Friday, November 18 live on TSN, RDS and QR77 radio.  

Laval defeated Montreal 30-7 to earn their spot in the CIS semi-finals as two IFAF World Team alum contributed in the win with JULIAN BAILEY making a catch for 19 yards and ADAM THIBAULT had a catch for 11 yards.  

The Acadia Axemen claimed the Jewett Cup with a 39-20 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in the AUS Subway Loney Bowl to avenge last years' 37-8 loss to the Huskies. The Axemen defense was led by multiple former IFAF World team players including DREW MORRIS who registered 7 tackles and forced a fumble. ANDREW ROWE recorded four tackles and CAMERON WADE had three tackles.  

The Axemen will now play for Acadia's third Uteck Bowl in the last seven years and will face McMaster on Friday, November 18.  

McMaster Marauders defeated the Western Ontario Mustangs 41-19 in the 104th Yates Cup for their first OUA football title since 2003. The win also marked the first time that McMaster has won a Yates Cup on the road.  \

It was the Mustangs' led by IFAF World Team head coach GREG MARSHALL, first home loss since September 2010 as DAVID LEE recorded three tackles and MARCUS BABIC registered two tackles.

South of the border, Alabama bounced back this week with a 24-7 victory against Mississippi State to improve to 9-1 overall and 6-2 in the Southeastern Conference as Australian JESSE WILLIAMS started at defensive end recording two tackles in the win.  

The Florida State Seminoles defeated Miami in a 23-19 down to the wire game to not only capture their second victory in as many years over the Hurricanes but also put themselves in position to claim back-to-back championships. German native and former IFAF World Team player BJOERN WERNER registered three tackles and one for a loss of six yards.  

Arizona Wildcat AIULUA FANENE, who was member of the 2010 IFAF World Team, recorded three tackles for Arizona during their 48-29 loss to Colorado.  

RORY DEW from Australia played for University of Incarnate Word in a 61-16 loss to Abilene Christian University to finish the 2011 season 2-8 and Austria's ALEKSANDAR MILANOVIC helped Sacramento State defeat Idaho State 24-9.  

Offensive lineman ELIAS GROON from Sweden was a member of the 2010 IFAF World Team and helped the City College of San Francisco complete a perfect 10-0 regular season defeating Santa Rosa Junior College. The top-seeded City College of San Francisco will host No. 2 Fresno City in the Hawaiian Punch Bowl, which serves as the Northern California championship game, on Saturday, November 26.  

Richmond beat Delaware 24-10 as former IFAF World Team member JACOB RUBY started at right tackle for the Spiders. DILLON GUY played for Buffalo during their 30-17 loss to Eastern Michigan.  

IFAF World Team running back TEVAUN SMITH, who scored the first touchdown ever conceded by Team USA in the 2011 match up, led the Kent School from Connecticut to their sixth straight victory defeating Loomis Chaffee 32-30.
