Defending champions Laval Rouge et Or will have a chance to reclaim their national title as they face Uteck Bowl champions McMaster in the 47th Vanier Cup championship, which will feature several former IFAF World Team members when played on Friday, November 25.
Laval will be seeking its seventh championship in 13 seasons, while the Marauders are making their first Vanier Cup appearance since 1967, live on TSN and RDS across Canada.
The International Federation of American Football selects the top Under-19 players from around the world to represent the Team World at the annual USA Football International Bowl, played since 2010. Laval Rouge earned a spot in the national title game next week in Vancouver following a 41-10 defeat of second-ranked Calgary Dinos. In the win, IFAF World Team member ADAM THIBAULT had three catches for 33 yards and one tackle and THOMAS GIRARD recorded three tackles for Laval.
Calgary had an impressive 2011 season in which multiple IFAF World Team members contributed to the Dinos success. In the semi-final matchup game, JAKE HARTY had a catch for 19 yards, STEVEN LUMBALA ran for seven yards and LINDON GAYDOSH registered four tackles. On the season, Lumbala has rushed for 1,212 yards and seven touchdowns.
Three touchdown passes and a scoring run by Kyle Quinlan led No. 4 McMaster Marauders to a 45-21 come-from-behind victory against No. 9 Acadia Axemen to claim the Uteck Bowl and a spot in the CIS Championship game. The win breaks the Marauders streak of four straight bowl-game losses and McMaster is on a nine-game winning streak, having not lost since a 48-21 defeat to Western Ontario on September 10.
TYLER CRAPIGNA, 2010 IFAF World Team alum, did not participate in the game due to injury but has had stellar 2011 season connecting on 18 field goals which is first in CIS and is a perfect 31-31 on extra points. His longest field goal of the season was a 46-yard field goal.
For Acadia, JAKE THOMAS recorded five tackles, 2011 IFAF World Team member DREW MORRIS registered four tackles and ANDREW ROWE had one tackle. Thomas finished the season with 36 tackles, Morris had 20 tackles, Rowe registered 27 tackles and CAMERON WADE had 42 tackles, which was third most on the team.
Alabama defeated Georgia 45-21 before a sellout crowd on Senior Day with the help of Australian JESSE WILLIAMS who played for the 2010 IFAF World Team and is also a former member of the Australia Junior National team. In the win, Williams recorded three tackles as the Crimson Tide to improve to 10-1 with their only loss to undefeated No. 1 LSU.
Arizona scored with 5:18 remaining as the Wildcats defeated Arizona State 31-27 to claim the Territorial Cup victory to improve to 3-8. Western Samoan AIULUA FANENE, who was a teammate of Williams on the IFAF World Team, had a productive game collecting three tackles and forced a fumble.
Florida State dropped their home finale to Virginia 14-13 in a wild-finish heartbreaker. German defensive end BJOERN WERNER recorded four tackles and broke up a pass.
Sacramento State season ended with a 23-19 loss to UC Davis in the 58th annual Pepsi Causeway Classic. Austrian and former IFAF World Team member ALEKSANDAR MILANOVICH played offensive line for the Hornets this season, who finished 4-7.
Richmond loss to William & Mary 25-23 as former IFAF World Team member JACOB RUBY started at right tackle for the Spiders. DILLON GUY played for Buffalo during their 51-10 victory over Akron.
Kent School dropped their first game of the season 28-18 to Taft School. IFAF World Team running back TEVAUN SMITH scored all three touchdowns for Kent School on a one-yard run, 17-yard run and a 21-yard catch.
