The American Football Bund Österreich (AFBÖ) was established in 1982 and comprises of tackle football, flag football and cheerleading
The AFBÖ has 25 tackle football teams (22 men, 3 women), 11 flag football teams and a total of more than 4,500 members. Austrian football has four leagues (3 men, 1 women): the AFL – Austrian Football League, DIV 1, DIV 2 and Division Ladies. There are also seven Prep Leagues in four age categories.
The AFL is the top League in Austria and one of Europe’s best and in 2008, three of Austria’s top four teams were ranked 1, 2 and 3 in Europe.
