The Belgian American Football League (BFL) was incorporated in the late 1980’s and is  composed of 16 active teams gathering approximately one thousand players, participating in the domestic competitions.

The Belgian Football league national structure features two regional leagues mainly responsible for the day-to-day management of American football in their respective areas.

Together with the regional leagues, the BFL organizes an annual senior football championship, played during the spring, and a junior championship, played during the autumn.  Flag football for junior players, recently introduced in Belgium, is also steadily growing and a national championship is under development.
