The American Football Association of Finland - SAJL - was founded in 1979. It has grown to become a federation of 30 clubs, featuring more than 100 teams and 1,500 players participating in both male and female tackle leagues as well as youth leagues for 21,19,17,15 and 13-year-old players.

The federation is recognized by both the Finnish government and Finnish Sports Federation governing both tackle and flag football activities in Finland.
